Guni John project, Bangladesh

The Wharfedale Vineyard give regularly to the Bangladesh fund run by Chapel A church. This fund supports a team of evangelists working in the Chittagong Hill Tracts in South East Bangladesh. The connection for this comes about because David Flowers grew up in this area when his parents were missionaries there in the 1960's. Michael Flowers (David's father) visited recently and reported back as follows:

He met with the 6 evangelists we support and was impressed with the work they had done in the last year since the founder of this work, Guni John (who visited us a couple of years ago), died in 2006. Michael was told that they have seen 462 new believers, 165 baptisms, 383 enquirers and constituted 4 churches. That is wonderful in any context not least in a hostile country and harsh conditions!

The evangelists would like to supplement their work by taking a teacher with them to each village. The villages are too far from any government school for the tribal people to risk sending their children and so to place a Christian teacher in the village along with an evangelist is a powerful testimony to the breadth of care of the church as well as a strategic ministry for the gospel. Each teacher costs the same as an evangelist so the plan is being considered.

We are thanked for our support - the door is still open into Bangladesh although we don't know for how much longer.
