Other People, Other Places
Other People, Other Places (OPOP) is all about people who are different to us. The hope of OPOP is to see the church grow within other communities both here and abroad. ‘There is a common commitment to the local church as pivotal to God’s plan for world evangelization, and agreement that the responsibility that evolves from this cannot be relegated to others. Local Church Based Missions does not preclude the sending of missionaries, nor working with mission agencies where that is appropriate. The critical issue is that initiative, responsibility, and vision reside with the local church, and that each church’s efforts should be focused and strategic.’ vineyardmissions.org

Like many other Vineyards we will be ‘specialising’ in a few geographic areas rather than spread our resources across the world. One or two areas are beginning to emerge, but we are far from locking onto specific places at this early stage.
OPOP is particularly concerned with the following:
• Long Term Workers. We aim to send and support workers to live and work in other cultures.
• Short term ministry trips. These trips are an excellent way to train and equip disciples to be effective in extending God's kingdom in other communities. It is also often the case that people return feeling that the have received far more than they gave. It is an aim of Reach Out that everybody who calls the Wharfedale Vineyard his or her home will embark upon a trip at some stage.
• Financial and prayer support for poor communities and for the furtherance of God's kingdom.
Why do we do this? Jesus told the apostles that they would be his witness in Jerusalem (their local town), and in all Judea (their local province), and Samaria (surrounding areas), and to the ends of the earth. Acts 1:8
To see the multifaceted personality of God. The various people groups across the earth all reflect facets of God’s complex personality. It is a wonderful education for us and our walk with Christ to serve and bless others.
A word of caution: If God tells us to go somewhere and we don’t go, what happens? In the case of Jonah, he was swallowed by a big whale and lay in fish and sand vomit for 3 days. It was smelly. God will have his way and there is nothing we can do to avoid him.
