Minicab picnic in the deer park

Arriving at the lakeside near Studley Royal, it looked hopeful...

So we parked up the "Minicabs"

But alas, the Seven Bridges walk was closed due to flooding and one of the bridges had been washed away.

"So let's go this way!"

"Deer, deer", the children delighted in repeating

By the time we found the picnic spot we needed the shelter of the trees

And so it became an umbrella picnic

There was some creative thinking about what this situation reminded us of in the Bible
in a line

Our spot was near a steep-sided "hidden valley" so we told a story about a valley, a picnic lunch and a stone.  The Israelites and Philistines were camped on either side of the valley.  We experimented to discover how difficult it was to charge down one side and up the other side to do battle.  David brought a picnic lunch and the stone killed Goliath, of course (not Ben Newman as in our re-enactment).

I managed to pinch the photographer's camera for a moment

And we walked back down the long path to the obelisk

Where the boys found something much more interesting to look at

And the rest of us consumed icecreams and lazed away the afternoon kicking ball and throwing frisbee on the grass now that the sun had come out.
