Challenge
There are 50 favelas in Curitiba with up to 500,000 people
Model
Open Hands is providing a blueprint for other cities and church communities to follow in reaching out to those in the favelas
In Brazil the local church is working together with local government to prepare and run the project in the long term. Local government have provided land, access roads and storage drains. The aims of the project are not only to build houses but to train local people to gain construction skills.
