Carol Services – Christmas Presence
Thank you to the huge number of people who put massive amounts of time and energy into our Carol Services. They were wonderful, they did what it said on the tin and we were able to invite many friends, family and neighbours without embarrassment to something where they could hear and experience something of Jesus’ presence. Here is the talk if you would like to read the words again.
Next year the Carol Services will be on 16 December.
Love in Auction
We were able to give enormously generously to people over the Christmas period – here is some information about what you supported and the people you helped. Thank you – as is absolutely right, the Vineyard is known as a generous church and many people have experienced Jesus’ presence as a result.
MY DEVOTIONAL LIFE – by David Flowers
In the next few months we will be studying some of Jesus’ parables. In preparation for this I have been re-reading the gospels, particularly Luke (which is the one I go to least often for some reason). I have enjoyed reminding myself of this amazing biography of Jesus’ life. I find it helpful to read it alongside Tom Wright’s “Luke for Everyone” commentary. It is easy to read and is one of his best.
I have also enjoyed listening to some new worship CDs. The Vineyard NLC recording ('My Soul Yearns') is one of the best we have done for a while with a couple of stunning songs. I have also loved listening to 'Come Away' from Jesus Culture - a big sound and presentation which is best played loud! For something different but inspirational I have been listening to Gungor’s new album, 'Ghosts Upon the Earth'.
My current challenge from God is to lay my hands on the sick at every opportunity – rather than looking for excuses or to others with more faith!
Week of prayer and fasting
Our first Sunday back at weekly worship on 8 January 2012 will herald the beginning of a week of prayer and fasting too. Here are some thoughts on fasting that may help you approach the week. And here are some activities to which you are invited: (Prayer Breakfast & Creative Workshop). You can find the themes on which we will be praying on this page.
Some things to look forward to:
- Our traditional New Year’s Day Walk – this year on Otley Chevin and finishing with lunch at the Dyneley Arms.
- The tree collection happens on Friday 6 January. Details here.
- The Welcome course starts on Monday 23 January. Details here.
- We will be teaching through some of the parables of Jesus in the coming weeks. I will ask the preachers to post a forum notice in advance so you can read the specific ones that are being taught.
- We would love to have a baptism service – let us know if you would like to take this step of obedience and faith.
