Autumn 2011 Reach Out round up
The Autumn is always full of Reach Out opportunities, and this year has been no exception. We wanted to take a moment to reflect on what we have been doing, thank God for how he has worked through us and say great job Wharfedale for your hard work! Feel free to add your stories using the comments box at the bottom too.
September
After the summer break our regular Reach Out activities started up again:
- On the Streets - taking food, drink and prayer to the Big Issue sellers in Leeds.
- Belly Buttons - a group of parents who meet to be reminded of God's love for us and our children. Providing a place for parents to invite their friends to.
- Friday Night Project - a youth club where all young people from varying age, ability, family background, ethnicity and image can feel happy, safe, included, loved, affirmed, valued and accepted; where they feel heard and appreciated: where they can make a contribution and learn new skills; where their problems can be aired and supported with sensitivity and confidentiality; where they can build relationships with each other and positive role models; and a bridge from which we can build relationship with them and through them with their families and communities.
- The Vine - The CAP centre has been continuing to bless increasing numbers of clients helping them to become debt free and the Child Contact Centre is moving closer to opening once all the paperwork is complete.
October
- No Trick, Our Treat took place in Horsforth, Osmondthorpe, Meanwood, Holt Park, Otley and Roundhay. Over 300 goody bags full of sweets were given away, plus hot dogs and cards with the message 'Just to say God Loves You'.
- Two Alpha courses started, one in Oakwood and one in Leeds City Centre.
- The Store went on the road to Joanna, taking clothing and small household items to clients Joanna works with who needed them.
- Tim Whitley went on a trip to Thailand for two weeks.
November
December
- Mulled Wine and Mince Pie parties took place in many homes across our community, a great opportunity taken to invite neighbours, friends, family and colleagues around and celebrate Christmas with them.
Love in Auction took place at weekly worship with many taking the opportunity to sign up for ways to bless the projects and ministries that we partner with. We demonstated to our local communities God's love for them, that Christmas is an amazing story about this love, and that we haven't forgotten about those around us. Here are the projects which we helped this year:
- Inglewood Children's Home, Otley (see photo opposite)
Toy Club, Osmondthorpe
- Women's refuge, Harrogate (see photo opposite) - "I would like to thank you on behalf of all our Women & Children in the refuge for your kind gifts. We really do appreciate your kindness and support."
- Joanna - "Thank you so very much on behalf of everyone at Joanna for such wonderful hampers for our ladies. We were genuinely overwhelmed with the content and quality of the gifts and the lovely bags they came in. You clearly worked very hard to get the gifts together and they really were much appreciated. Once again, thank you very much for the kindness and generosity of everyone at Wharfedale Vineyard. " - Yvonne, Project Manager, Joanna
