chordsHousegroup Worship Leader Character & Gifting

As worship is seen as lifestyle and not simply “singing songs”, inevitably you function as a role model for others. As such, your lifestyle and character are important essentials for this ministry (see Romans 12:1-2 MSG version). Remember, your goal isn't to play through a list of songs well, but to lead the people into true worship of God.
You are a worship leader, not a song leader.

Character

  • A desire to follow Jesus, and to grow more like him.
  • A lifestyle that is reasonably stable, self-controlled and free from excesses and improper habits.
  • Being teachable, trustworthy and willing to be accountable to your housegroup leaders.
  • Being devoted to worship, prayer, ministry, and family.
  • Established commitment to the Wharfedale Vineyard and its leaders, refusing to engage in idle complaint and criticism – making sure concerns are raised appropriately.
  • A team-player willing to carry your fair share in terms of time, energy, prayer and resources.

Gifting

  • Have a call from God for this ministry.
  • Have a servant's heart - more interested in serving than self-promotion.
  • Actively worship the Lord in private - every day if possible - learning to worship, to enjoy worship, and how to respond to God.
  • Establish relationship with the Housegroup Leader, working together on planning the ministry of worship in the small group.
  • Learn to sing and play the songs as sung & played by the worship band on Sundays (in terms of rhythm, timing, melody, repeats etc), singing songs in keys appropriate to your group’s vocal range.
  • Provide song book/lyric sheets for people to use in Housegroup (SongSmart is available for this purpose)
  • Seek to use new songs in your group as they are introduced by Worship bands on Sundays.
  • Practice your instrument regularly, seeking to develop beyond your present skill level.
  • Come to each meeting prepared in your heart and with a song list.
  • Keep to agreed timings for Worship song sets, staying sensitive to the Holy Spirit and the leader.
  • Sing and play loudly enough for all to hear and follow. Articulate clearly. Prompt or cue as appropriate.
  • Be aware of any other members of the group who may have a gifting in leading Worship to develop further worship leaders - if identified discuss with your housegroup leader and Housegroup Worship Coordinator (Currently Nik Gee).
