chords(previous events) Retro Worship Special

On Monday 28 February we met at the Vineyard Centre for a night of alternative worship. The highlight was that the song selection was focused on well known songs from our rich heritage of worship from years gone by. We revisited classics such as "Majesty", "Isn't He", and "Light of the World".

Input into what we played on the night so please let us know your suggestions/favourites was added below. We couldn't promise to play everything but hopefully there was something for everyone.

New and old songs aside, our aim is to worship our God, who is the same yesterday, today and forever! See you there...

Songs we’re currently considering:

Isn't He?

Father God I wonder

I sing a simple song of love

Pour out my Heart

Eternity

There must be more

Blessed be the name (Andy Park)

Sing a song/We will Dance (on the streets that are Golden)

Light of the World

I love You Lord and I lift my voice

The Servant King

How good and how pleasant

Sorry but we're going to have to say "no more song suggestions" now as we're a little overwhelmed! We currently have enough songs for about half a year of Sunday services... Thanks for all the suggestions and comments - it's been really encouraging!

I seem to remember from being a teen that all they were concerned about was ' to go even if they don't believe you' mmmm i sound like evangelism is what we are really for!!!!!!( the church exists really for the people who are not in it.. and all that)... GO GO i think Jesus meant ( answers ona postcard)

Play me a Keith Green song any day, adore them, what a beautiful gift he had.

This does confuse me a bit in some respects as I've never stopped using a lot of these songs. But I do really some of the older ones. On a similar note I once got told off at church by (not wv btw) mrs pastor for playing music that wasn't vineyard. The cd in question happened to be 'holy', which I am sure we cam all remember. Just goes to show doesn't it. Some of the songs suggested here are quite recent really... I just like variety.

I was struggling with how to put my point and while I was randomly browsing through the web I came across this http://tgcreviews.com/excerpts/why-johnny-cant-sing-hymns-how-pop-culture-rewrote-the-hymnal/

While I very much enjoy contemporary styles of music, for me the content of the song is more important. Even though I am a big fan of old and new songs alike the author has a point about the lack of hymns in use from earlier than the last two centuries. Now I have to say after reading the lengthy review (here: http://www.zachicks.com/blog/2010/11/29/review-of-why-johnny-cant-sing-hymns-by-t-david-gordon-77.html - this the conclusion) I would disagree with many things in the book, but perhaps we should look again at why we sing the songs that we sing, and maybe include some older lyrics. Unlike the author, I don't have a problem with the arrangements or styles, and I'm quite happy for them to be updated. Just food for thought anyway :)

What a great evening! I loved the band's arrangements and was surprised how much I enjoyed singing all the songs ;)
It was fantastic to worship together, with such richness of lyrics in some old-skool songs - and to feel the presence of God filling the room.

Many thanks to Howard, Sally, Dave, Timm, Roman, Pete & Clair.
Hope you do another one soon!
