Worship band vision and values

As bands and band leaders, we aim to:
1.    Provide musical leadership that causes people to want to join in
2.    Model and reflect, in our music and our relationships, the values that Christ demands of the church  (1 Cor 12)

What we want to be like
What we’re looking for
We serve the Wharfedale Vineyard; we complement the values, beliefs and practices of the Wharfedale community.
We choose songs which fit our theology and values
We choose songs which are relevant
We are musically creative and contemporary
We pray for the leaders and respect their decisions
We live out what the songs are saying
Band members are involved in the life of the community
We wish to be responsive to the call of God and the move of the Holy Spirit, in order that people may encounter God and develop intimacy with Him.
Band members have a growing relationship with God
We put ourselves right with God and with others before leading
We prepare prayerfully
We expect God to come
We practice leading and listening to the Holy Spirit (for example in band rehearsals or small groups)

To allow God to move:
We know each other well
We know the songs well
We are flexible to change our plans
We want to play competently in order to avoid distraction and give our best to God (Psalm 33, 1-4).
Music is free from avoidable technical mistakes
We play and sing in tune
Songs are within a comfortable vocal range for most people
We make space in rehearsals for creativity
We offer leadership and direction in order to provide a safe context in which to draw people into intimacy with God.

We wish to worship, and not just perform (Amos 5:21-23).
We submit to our leaders, following with the servant heart
The band leader takes musical and spiritual responsibility
Everyone in the band is worshipping
Body language expresses worship
We worship in the congregation, not just when at the front
We worship in private times
Bands and their members demonstrate followership (as a model of the relationship between Christ and the church).
We respect the leadership of the meeting leader and band leader
Band members listen to and watch the leader
All band members are servants, not stars
We pray for the band leader
We honour the band leader’s decisions
We ask for feedback from our leaders and allow them to coach us
We value musical togetherness in order to model the unity that is demanded of the body of Christ
(1 Cor 12, 12-20).
Bands know each other well, both personally and musically
Each member develops their skills through practise and training
Bands practise together regularly (every fortnight)
Sets are planned in advance; band members have time to practise in advance of the rehearsal
We aim to value and use each band member and complement each other
(1 Cor 12,4-11;21-26).
We achieve musical balance between the instruments
We don’t all play all of the time (learn when not to play)
We are sensitive to each other’s gifts and needs
We build each other up
We encourage each other to develop our skills
We value and encourage the setup, PA and AV teams
