The Griffins are visiting Emthonjeni, South Africa

24 July – 14 August 2010

During recent years many people from Wharfedale have visited an AIDs clinic called Emthonjeni just south of Johannesburg, South Africa. Last year a team of 15 people built a jungle gym, planted vegetable gardens and were welcomed into a community of local volunteers who help run the AIDs clinic. The links between Wharfedale and Emthonjeni are made stronger still with Matt & Anne Button being the British Ambassadors for Emthonjeni, and Wharfedale gives £2400 annually to the project.

We love Emthonjeni and the work that it does. This will be our third visit and we hope to continue some of the work that we embarked upon last year. Many of you will know of our desire to do missions and help enable others to join in. We hope, therefore, that this trip will also be an opportunity for us to hear afresh God’s call on our lives as a family. We will be staying in a house on a nearby farm, which is collectively owned by a small group of Christians from the South African Vineyard.

We would value your prayers, especially that we would be open to hear God’s heart. One way you could commit to pray for us is to put your name down at the bottom of the page and commit to pray for us on a particular day while we are away. Alex & Karen will send a prayer note to those who comment below.

Please pray fervently for the people in and around Emthonjeni, especially for the orphan care programme that has been started; the houses have been built, but politics has kept them empty for over a year. The Environmental Impact Assessment is currently underway and Emthonjeni are hoping to have children in the houses in September.
