Praying for Other People, Other Places

We are going to be praying on Saturday morning (6th February) for Other People in Other Places. We would love it if you felt able to come along and pray with us.

Without fail, each time we go we feel enthused and excited about what God is up to and what he has in store for us as a church in the future. It somehow seems like a place where God gets our creative juices flowing, stirs that little bit more compassion for the poorest in our world and leaves one with that knowledge that a definite difference has just been made in our world through the time of prayer. Gotta love it!

So here are the details:

Time: 8.45ish breakfast for a 9am start – aim to be done no later than 10.15.

Even if you are unable to make it in person, feel free to be praying wherever you are.
Here are some things to get you going:

People recently returned, heading or currently overseas:

Pray for those whom God is nudging to go overseas short or longer term in the coming year – that God would direct them to the right destination, by his grace allow them to join in with what he is doing there and when they come back, motivated to reach out to their community here.

Libby Pollard based in Mexico - keep praying for her – financial, culturally and spiritually. She is in a period of discipleship training with YWAM (Youth With A Mission – international Christian organisation). Let’s pray that this time continues in her an increasing passion for God and for the study of his word, compassion for the poor and lost and a love for God’s family.

Zambia trip 24/07 to 08/08 2010. We have a fantastic team of 10 of us from Wharfedale going for definite – Nik Gee, Emily Marshall, Michelle Harrison, Annie and Amy Davis, Tim and Andrew Whitley, Matt and Anne Button and of course the marvellous Elaine Sadler. Please pray for us as we prepare – not only for enough money – but more importantly for God to break our hearts for those we will meet and fill us with compassion. Pray for us to have the faith to believe God will provide for us in every way we need.

Projects we support overseas
Emthonjeni
Please pray for:
  1. Environmental Impact Assessment: We have been quoted R150 000 (roughly £15,000) for the assessment. We either need money donated towards the assessment, or someone with the skills who can conduct the assessment for us. Without this we will not be able to move orphaned and vulnerable children into our homes.
  2. We are currently looking for a nurse who can do HIV testing. We need a dynamic person who can reach out to the community, perform health education and who has a passion to see the community changed.
  3. Housemothers & Housemother Training: We need 10 housemothers. Our housemothers will need to be trained and qualified. We have been quoted R10 000 per house mother fortraining which then would equal R100 000 for all 10 housemothers.
  4. Furnishing for 5 of our homes.
Guni John project – Michael Flowers is still awaiting detailed news, but is aware that 2 of the evangelists had their houses destroyed by Fundamentalist Buddhists villagers. So just keep praying especially for the 2 evangelists!

Mission Direct – keep praying for the work they do – sending hundreds of Christians overseas to further God’s kingdom wherever they go. Pray for Nigel Hyde who oversees the organisation. Here are some recent prayer points from him:
  1. Thanks to God for an amazing year where hundreds of people went to 7 countries to learn, serve, build and share their faith. As we reflect on what God has done in 5 years of mission direct we see thousands have been presented with the gospel in word and deed and many have responded. Lives have been saved and changed as His people have said here I am send me.
  2. People – The Lord seems to be sending a stream of people interested in working with us. Pray for discernment and seeing the best fit or not for each one. I find this fairly difficult as I always want to say yes.
  3. One of my co directors who has been with me since the start of Mission Direct has just announced he is going to leave Mission Direct. This is a difficult decision for him and we have to think how best to restructure ourself as we proceed. Please pray for Ronnie as he leaves and me as I work with the other leaders on what it looks like.
  4. In Sierra Leone over Christmas one of our team members was baptised. We continue to work with the City of Rest (a mental health and drug rehabilitation Christian ministry. Ask the Lord will send £100,000 to complete the facility.
  5. For us as a family we thankful to God for His love and provision. Rebekah is loving medical school, Natasha is preparing for a year in bible college in the states before University and Georgina has GCSEs so lots of exams. Please pray for them.
  6. We have our first teacher training team out at present. Pray the Lord will show us what works well and how we can help teachers in their faith and methods of teaching children.

I am sure we all have other personal links  – so here is a reminder to be praying for friends/family overseas!
