Beals go to Sierra Leone
Han and Bec are venturing out of the country to Sierra Leone this Easter for 2 weeks.
We are going with a team from Mission Direct. Sierra Leone is officially recognised as the poorest country in the world, there are huge needs everywhere. Since the war ended in 2003, the country has been struggling to lift itself out of poverty. The United Nations has brought peace and some stability to the country, but for ordinary people life is a daily struggle, with corruption rife and food and goods so very expensive.

Part of the work will be involved in a project to build a new accommodation block at The City of Rest, a drug rehabilitation and psychiatric outreach centre. Many of the clients currently live in basement dormitories where beds are broken, mattresses infested with insects and walls that are in need of a good lick of magnolia paint. Han is particularly looking forward to working in mental health in a different culture and considering the importance of vocational skills to empower the clients to they can live purposeful lives.
We will also be visiting the women at the Hastings Polio Home. Mission Direct have been involved setting up a number of projects here, including a clothing workshop with sewing machines and dyes- so watch out for our new multicoloured tie dye look on our return.
Mission Direct has built up strong links with the local churches and we are looking forward to the opportunity to work closely alongside them. We are excited to be part of this team and the work of Mission Direct and the small part we can play in making a difference for others.
Note from Matt & Anne who oversee Other People, Other Places
We would like to encourage you to support what Bec and Han are doing in stepping out, taking a risk and heading to Sierra Leone. We look forward to hearing their stories of God at work in their lives, and the lives of people that they have met when they return.
Some practical things that you can do to help:
1. Collecting vitamin tablets, wool and crochet wool (for more details of what is required, please contact Becky) 2. Praying for them both, before, during and after.
I will be praying for the trip to Sierra Leone
