Autumn colours at Bolton Abbey
On Sunday 16th November 2008, the Out and About group and their guests will be taking an autumnal walk at Bolton Abbey. Adults and children are welcome.
Bolton Abbey is twenty three miles from Leeds via A65 through Ilkley and Addingham and it takes around 45 minutes to get there. Go past the first car park, through the narrow stone archway, and look for a road on the right down to the Sandholme carpark by the Cavendish Pavilion. In order to make the most of the daylight, avoid hanging around in the cold, and get a walk in before lunch, we'd like everyone to meet at 10.30am, which probably means leaving Leeds by 9.45am. Parking costs £5.50. Leave a comment below if you'd like to share lifts.
We're going to plan a few walk options and will probably walk in two groups - with one group doing a longer and slightly more challenging walk of 5-7 miles, and the other doing a more buggy-friendly option of 2-3 miles.
It would be a good idea to bring food to eat en route as we probably won't want to stop for long in the cold for a proper picnic. We'll aim to finish with a late lunch or snack in the warmth at the Cavendish Pavilion (open until 4.30pm).
It should be a great day out! Temperature forecast is between 2C and 9C. Needless to say, wrap up well, bring waterproofs, gloves, and strong walking shoes or boots.
NEW! Photo competition
Paula has suggested we have a photography competition. With digital cameras, people can take many pics then post only 3 on Facebook and others have to judge. Any scene..any body..any trees or animals or nature stuff or just anything. A jar of homemade autumn chutney as the adult prize and something suitable as a prize for the under-16s entries. Just one thought - walk ahead so as to try not to have people getting cold standing around waiting for photos to be taken!
Response
I'm planning to come to Bolton Abbey on Sunday 16th November. Please let me know if plans change at the last minute due to weather.

| | | David Wallace | 16/11/2008 20:16 | With 64 people at the event, three separate walks, a sunny day and lots of cameras in evidence, the field is wide open for the photo competition. At least one prize for adults and one for children. Upload your best 5 photos to this facebook group page by next Sunday 23rd November and we'll arrange independent judging sometime shortly after that. If children are entering, put their initials and age in the comments e.g. MDW9. http://www.facebook.com/wall.php?id=43506887742#/event.php?eid=43506887742
