New to Vineyard

Website front page changes

The website front page has now changed, as one of the final pieces of website redevelopment.  Previously, you may have read about the wider layout, the stylish header bars, the menu move, and the social bookmarking facility.  So what are the latest changes and why?

Changing photos

1 why-easter

Your eye will probably have been drawn to the changing photos on the front page.  This gives us the opportunity to show a much wider range of  "Vineyard in action" than the previous "group" photos, each of which had to give an overall impression to the one-time visitor.  It always starts with the same photo, but after that, the photos are shuffled every time.  And if you click on the photo it takes you to a larger view of the same photos (not in random order) and a selection of photo galleries that we have compiled over the years.  Hope you enjoy them.

Header buttons

about-usEach of the colourful headings now acts as a "big button" to take you to the most useful parts of the website.

More or less

Visitors get more buttons, and more introductory information like map and directions, but less detail of events and fewer forum entries.  We are trying to keep things as simple as possible for visitors, but on the other hand there is a LOT going on! Hopefully people who've been around a while will be able to use the Search facility (it is very good - try it - near the top left) or to find their way through the menus (which we simplified a couple of months ago).

Team thanks

The work has been done by David and Sally Wallace, Anne Button, Claire Tapp, Alex Griffin, Simon Murray and our friends at ChurchInsight, so thanks to everyone for their efforts to complete this project, which started in April and has been intensive since the beginning of July.

Helping us spot problems

We will need to continue working on tidying up the website for a little while longer until we get everything more up to date. With over 800 pages to check it may take a long time to find even quite obvious errors.  If you spot something that seems out of date, or a broken link, it would be very helpful if you could either fix it in WebOffice if you know how and/or let us know. The best thing is to copy the URL from the Address Bar in your browser and paste it into the form below and explain what the problem is - we might not be able to spot it!

** STOP PRESS - thank you to the people who have already been spotting little problems - we've been able to sort out most of them almost immediately.  Funny how things are invisible when you look at them so often!

Not sure about the pics of people being prayed for, It's a bit of a private personal moment with God even when done in a public arena, also the kids, was permission sought from either? Just wondering. But other than that all ok.

We reviewed the set of photos extensively with various people who saw the prototypes over the past few months. As is our policy we sought specific permission for photos that featured individual children and we have not displayed their names. The standard children's consent form gives permission for group photos giving the flavour of our events. The prayer ministry photos are of very public prayer ministry occasions. On one or two occasions over the years an adult has asked for a photo of them to be substituted and we have usually been able to do so quite easily. So we follow best practice and are very conservative in this respect (compared, say, to Facebook, MySpace, Flickr etc).
