Operation Christmas Child

op christmas child

IT'S SHOE BOX TIME AGAIN! The time of year when we remember the very poorest children in Eastern Europe and Africa by filling a shoe box wrapped in jolly paper with toys, sweets (not chocolate), school notebook, pencil case, hat, scarf, gloves, basic toiletries etc. The choice is up to you. It's also a great idea to enclose a Christmas card and stick inside it a photo of the sender(s). This makes it so much more personal to the child and also helps to create a tender heart in our own children.

You can find more information at http://www.operationchristmaschild.org.uk/

There will be leaflets on the Resources table. Inside you'll find the Boy/Girl/Age labels, an envelope for the £2.50 towards transportation (or you can do this online) and a list of suggested gift ideas. Maximum box size is 30 x 18 x 13 cm.

Please bring your box to the drop-off point in the Street at Ralphs this Sunday 21 November.

Or if you go to http://www.operationchristmaschild.org.uk/ and type in your post code, your nearest local drop-off point will come up.

Need some ideas?

Choose your age group : 2-4 years, 5-9 or 10-14. Boy or girl?
Soft toy, tennis ball, jigsaw, yo-yo, building blocks. Boys love trucks and cars, girls like clip-on earrings, make-up, hair bobbles, dolls. Also toothpaste/brush, soap, face cloth. Or felt pens, pens, pencils, sharpener, rubber, colouring book, pencilcase, stickers etc. Sweets are a must (but not chocolate or other foods).

Please make sure your shoe box is medium-sized - no large trainer or boot boxes please and wrap the lid separately so the contents can be checked. Please remember to enclose £2.50 towards our transit costs.

Other ways to help?

We aways welcome volunteers to help at the warehouses in Yeadon and Sherburn with checking and despatching the boxes. This is a lovely job to do and there's always a great buzz in the atmosphere. Just pop in and do a couple of hours or whatever you can manage.
