South Africa Mission Trip 2009
On Saturday 4 April 2009 9 adults and 6 children will be flying out to Johannesburg in South Africa to work with the AIDS project Emthonjeni.

What are we going to be doing?
- Supporting the foster mums of the orphaned children of HIV sufferers
- Home visits with the caregivers – follow up to patients on an anti-retroviral drug treatment programme
- Facilitating support groups for the patients to encourage them and teach on basic medical and social matters
- Working in the vegetable garden – 1 hectare of land to look after
- Helping 30 children with homework and other activities in the after-school programme
- Soccer school
- Painting/decorating and maintenance on the buildings
- Construction of a jungle gym for the kids centre
- Helping to cook lunch for the patients
In addition – we will be spending time with the project workers and leaders in order to encourage them as they work hard all year round.
And a short safari trip over the Easter weekend!
How can you support the team
Pray for us
- protection over the two weeks we're away and also on Saturday 11 October when we will be doing our first fundraising activity (see below)
- that we have good weather on Saturday 11 October
- that He will provide all our needs
- we won't feel overwhelmed or worry about what is required of us
- that the team will gel together
Look out for our fundraising activities
- On Saturday 11 October at 5.30 am we are heading to the Yorkshire three Peaks where we will be individualy challenged to walk either one, two or three peaks. If you would like to join us please do, contact Matt and Anne for more information. You can also sponsor the team by filling in the response box below or contact the office.
- We will be selling handmade Christmas cards - for details please click here.
- The children will have a day selling cakes, buns and biscuits and may even offer to wash your car.
- We are organising a New Years Eve party, tickets will be on sale soon, so pencil it in your diaries, ask you friends and get your babysitters booked.
- We are selling items on ebay, if anyone would like to donate anything please speak to Nigel Tapp
We will be giving 10% of all money raised directly to Emthonjeni - we hope to be able to buy a jungle gym for the orphans, some food parcels and run a soccer school to give just a flavour!
