Out and about on the Meanwood Valley Trail
On Sunday 20th July, meeting at 10.30am, the Out and About group and their guests of all ages will take a linear walk starting in Alwoodley and following the Meanwood Valley Trail as far as Meanwood Park, to join the proposed community barbeque there at 1pm.
We will meet at the playground on King Lane, opposite the shops at the end of The Avenue, Alwoodley. There is a car park next to Leodiensians club (map and directions).
The walk starts on rough ground with some woodland paths, and has some sections of rather well-made paths like the one in the picture. Overall it is not really suitable for buggies.
Along the way we will visit Stairfoot woods, Adel crags, Seven Arches, Scotland Wood, a tunnel under the ring road, the Hollies and finish at Meanwood Park. It is about 4km altogether. If you like paddling, bring wellies!
You shouldn't need to bring a picnic as there will be a free community barbeque at the end of the walk from around 1pm, but you might want to bring a waterbottle to sup along the way. There will also be some games and other activities at the barbeque, organised by the local churches in Meanwood, including Wharfedale Vineyard.
At some point over lunch, we will persuade a friendly person to give the drivers a lift back up to Alwoodley to retrieve their cars. (Any volunteers to help us do this?)
Please check this webpage again nearer the time for any updates.
